HOME

In April 2012, just shy of its one hundredth birthday, Bethel’s former First Congregational Church House, Silent Movie Theatre, & Masonic Temple, was torn down.

After spending each day at the demolition, watching a seemingly endless procession of residents coming to pay their last respects, it became apparent that

nearly every person in this town has a story about this building.

While the building, beloved to many, is gone, the stories and memories live on... at least so far as we’re each willing to tell the tale, and pass them down.

And so...we’re looking for those stories. Have old photographs from events that happened there? We’d love to see them! Willing to sit in front of a video camera? We’ll interview you! Have a face for radio and rather talk into a recorder? That’s good too! Want to write down the tale? Please do so!

We’re going to spend a few months gathering, searching, recording and learning...and then,

we’ll publish what we gather into a book (and maybe a small documentary depending on how much film can be found). But we cannot do this without the assistance of the community of Bethel residents, present and former (and even future).
